The Tucson J is seeking a Senior Director of Fitness & Wellness, a strategic executive leader responsible for driving the vision, operational growth, and overall member experience across the Tucson J’s fitness, wellness, sports, and recreation departments. Reporting directly to the President & CEO and serving on the Senior Leadership Team, this role holds full P&L accountability for a $1M+ budget, including a robust personal training business, while leading a multi-tiered team of department managers, fitness professionals, and recreation staff. The ideal candidate will combine strong commercial acumen and trainer management skills with a heart for community, driving revenue, modernizing programming, and building high-impact partnerships that advance holistic health and well-being rooted in Jewish values.

Compensation Range

$75,000 - $85,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team to align multi-department operations with overarching organizational strategy, mission, and core values
  • Drive revenue growth and maintain full P&L accountability for a $1M+ budget encompassing Fitness, Personal Training ($644K+), Sports, and Recreation 
  • Continuously evaluate emerging industry trends, such as active aging, recovery, and holistic wellness, to design and launch innovative programs that diversify non-dues revenue and expand member participation 
  • Recruit, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of managers, coordinators, and 20+ fitness and sports staff, fostering a high-performance culture of service and accountability
  • Partner closely with the General Manager to design seamless member onboarding, retention strategies, and high-touch customer service standards across all wellness facilities 
  • Oversee the creation, growth, and continuous improvement of inclusive, age-appropriate wellness, group exercise, sports, and adaptive recreation programs
  • Build strategic alliances with local healthcare systems, universities, corporate wellness entities, and sports organizations to expand regional presence and program reach

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s in Exercise Science, Business, Sports Management, or related field
  • 5+ years in fitness/recreation leadership, with 3+ years supervising management-level staff 
  • Proven success managing $1M+ P&Ls, driving revenue growth, and expanding personal training  
  • Strong track record of hiring, coaching, and retaining multi-tiered fitness and recreation teams 
  • Expertise in member retention strategies, program onboarding, and service standards  
  • Current CPR/AED certification alongside a nationally recognized fitness certification (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM) or equivalent senior club management experience 
  • Track record of maintaining high safety standards, facility risk management, and regulatory compliance across all health and wellness areas 
  • Proficiency with member management systems (Daxko preferred), scheduling software, and data-driven performance metrics/KPI tracking 
  • Alignment with non-profit community hub values, with background in JCC, YMCA, campus rec, or commercial health club environments (familiarity with Jewish culture and values is a plus)
