Celebrating its 50th year, the Tucson Hebrew Academy (THA) is a community Jewish Day School in Tucson, Arizona serving kindergarten through eighth grade. THA provides differentiated, exemplary secular and pluralistic Jewish education in a nurturing, supportive environment steeped in Jewish values. THA designs its curriculum around a collaborative “Project Based Learning” approach and believes that all children have an innate curiosity that is to be respected and developed. Its programming emphasizes self-assured self-expression, respect for diverse points of view, and being open to new challenges.  

THA seeks a self-driven Director of Advancement to join the school’s leadership team providing guidance and direction to all aspects of the THA development program. This position will lead THA’s comprehensive, strategic fundraising efforts and develop close relationships and rapport with the school community and beyond. Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Advancement will be an experienced fundraiser who is highly organized, able to effectively manage multiple priorities, and enjoys collaborating with Board members, donors, alumni, and administration. This individual will also serve as the main point of contact for giving to JETCO (Jewish Education Tax Credit Organization) and assist the JETCO Board with accomplishing its goals of providing scholarship funds for Jewish Education throughout Southern Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, execute, and manage all fundraising activities, including annual giving, endowment, capital campaigns, and special projects
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through in-person meetings and written communications
  • Plan and oversee the full fundraising calendar of activities, to include annual campaign, planned giving, endowment and capital projects; oversee all solicitation and recognition 
  • Build and implement THA’s alumni relations strategy; including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Provide fundraising guidance and support to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and Development Committee to meet fundraising goals and objectives
  • Develop fundraising training for trustees and other advancement volunteers to achieve development objectives
  • Support the work of the Development Committee, participate in board and committee meetings; prepare reports, materials and presentations as needed
  • Establish and implement long and short-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • Oversee the management of the donor database and all records, files, and gift processing
  • Externally represent Tucson Hebrew Academy to current and prospective support constituencies

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, Jewish communal experience preferred
  • Skilled in creating and managing development programs
  • Project management expertise, with the ability to prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines
  • Experience planning and executing fundraising events
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to thrive in collaborative environments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/Database; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Strong presence with the ability to inspire, influence, and build credibility with donors, lay leadership, and staff
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional database management and analysis skills, ability to create reports, and synthesize data
  • Goal oriented and self-starting, with a strong work ethic, and positive attitude 
  • Understanding of Jewish values and possess a passion for THA’s mission
