Overview

Starting Right, Now (SRN) is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to addressing the roots of poverty for unaccompanied homeless youth aged 15-19 who are not living with a parent/guardian and are not in foster care. With a mission to cultivate long-term well-being and self-sufficiency, SRN has been a transformative force for vulnerable youth in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties near Tampa, Florida.

SRN addresses the roots of poverty by serving unaccompanied homeless youth referred to them by Hillsborough or Pinellas public high schools. These youth, not considered for foster care, are provided with free, long-term housing to fulfill physiological and safety needs before engaging in holistic programming. SRN's approach is holistic and personalized, aiming to rectify inherited inequalities and prevent youth from becoming chronically homeless adults. Success stories include graduates with advanced degrees and gainful employment, contributing meaningfully to society. Beyond direct service, SRN's advocacy efforts have resulted in legislative impact, with ten bills co-authored or amended to protect unaccompanied youth statewide. 

SRN is now looking to expand their leadership team with the hiring of the Manager of Operations.  Reporting to the CEO, the Manager of Operations will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day operations, enhancing program delivery, and ensuring organizational efficiency. Ideal candidates will bring experience in nonprofit management, program development, supervision, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage staff team to include Social Services Supervisor, Lead House Managers, and Finance, Program, New Business, and Academic Coordinators
  • Create and implement systems and processes that ensure each department is meeting its expectations in the most efficient manner
  • Manage the budgeting process for the organization and ensure that the finance department accurately codes grants to deliver timely and accurate statements for the funders 
  • Ensure that checks and balances are in place and that employees in the finance department are adequately trained to do their jobs
  • Work with SRN’s accounting vendor to have financial data prepared for board meetings, that records are prepared for audits, and that compliance requirements have been met
  • Ensure that all HR records are in order and follow the standards for HR protocols
  • Make sure the organization follows accounting regulations, legal restrictions, employment rules, housing restrictions (such as inspections), and other industry-specific regulations
  • Work with the New Business team to ensure the strategic plan developed by the board and CEO for new business is being implemented
  • Provide oversight of all volunteer protocols and procedures

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with experience in nonprofit operations, supervision, and financial aptitude
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and implement processes and procedures
  • Strategic thinking and efficiency planning; ability to meet goals and objectives in a timely manner
  • Understanding of grants and grant compliance a plus
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for the mission of Starting Right, Now
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
  • Willingness and ability to travel between facilities in Tampa/St. Petersburg
