Overview

The Jewish United Fund (JUF) of Chicago is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the country. Rooted in the belief in collective action and collective responsibility, JUF provides life-saving services and life-enriching experiences   where they are needed most. The JUF IsraelNow program is an educational program designed to give eighth graders an immersive, emotional, and   memorable taste of Israel and their Jewish heritage through a week-long, “hands-   on” experience. The goal is that the participant returns home inspired to further their Jewish involvement in the community through continued engagement in Jewish learning experiences and activities. 

JUF seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and highly engaged Program Director who will provide strategy and oversight of the program’s expansion, foster   relationships with multiple local stakeholders, recruit teens and trip staff and manage the logistics of the trips. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about Israel through a pluralistic and educational lens, be familiar with the Jewish community at-large and be able to leverage personal relationships with teens and parents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a collaborative team to develop strategies for meeting agreed upon goals and objectives 
  • Supervise the IsraelNow Chicago Director of Community Engagement and Operations Coordinator
  • Acting as a first point of contact, coordinate recruitment efforts for all areas of the Chicago Jewish community, including non-affiliated families 
  • Develop strong working relationships with colleagues in Jewish education (formal and experiential), working with them to implement developed curriculum for trip participants and oversee pre- and post-trip education for non-affiliated participants 
  • Collaborate on training and recruitment of staff 
  • Conduct IsraelNow information sessions at synagogues, camps, JCCs, etc.  
  • Work with JUF marketing and communications to implement marketing and branding strategies and oversee social media efforts 
  • Lead two-three IsraelNow Chicago trips per year
  • Assist in long-term evaluation of IsraelNow Chicago trip impact

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working in Israel education, Jewish teen programs, summer camp, and/or Jewish education 
  • Knowledge of, passion for, and authentic personal connection to relevant issues of Jewish communal life, familiarity with Jewish calendar and lifecycle, and passion for Israel education
  • Prior Israel travels leadership experience highly preferred
  • Hebrew language fluency a plus but not a requirement
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required, CampMinder preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, and public speaking)
  • A dynamic and outgoing personality with the ability to develop relationships with a variety of audiences and ages
  • Self-motivated, with a willingness to take initiative
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, with attention to detail and proven ability to manage a complex schedule requiring extensive local travel and travel to Israel
  • An appreciation for the diversity of Jewish identity expression and practice and how Israel connects to Jewish identity
