Overview

Golda Och Academy (GOA) is a vibrant learning community that focuses on the individual intellectual, social, and spiritual needs of each child. GOA cultivates a lifelong love of learning within the context of Jewish knowledge and tradition. Located on two campuses, GOA serves approximately 450 students from Pre-K-12th grade from communities across New Jersey.

Golda Och Academy has celebrated momentous fundraising achievements over the years, including the successful completion of a $32 million capital and endowment campaign in 2015 and the securing of a $10 million challenge gift in 2021 dedicated to faculty excellence. With these successes, GOA is proud to have one of the largest endowments among Jewish day schools in North America.

Golda Och Academy is seeking a Director of Development who will lead the planning, development, and implementation of the school’s Annual Fund, including recruitment of volunteers, identification of potential donors, and engagement of GOA constituencies. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Development will showcase the school through innovative communications, outreach and events that will help the school to enhance their philanthropic support. Successful candidates will demonstrate success in nonprofit development, will work well independently and collaboratively, possess strong organizational skills allowing them to oversee multiple concurrent projects, and have demonstrated ability to maintain strong relationships in a warm, nurturing, and tight-knit community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement the $1M Annual Fund campaign, including direct solicitations   
  • Provide leadership to the Annual Fund volunteer team including volunteer recruitment, training, and making solicitation assignments
  • Responsible for constituency outreach, donor communication, and engagement 
  • Manage donor cultivation and stewardship, event strategy and implementation
  • Create and implement annual fundraising objectives and report on achievement of these objectives
  • Promote and grow giving societies focused on Annual Campaign 
  • Work closely with the Marketing & Communications team to write compelling messages, execute direct mail and email solicitations
  • Collaborate with the Database Manager on all daily operations for the Annual Fund including reporting, gift processing and acknowledgement letters
  • Partner with the Alumni Coordinator on outreach and engagement for alumni and alumni parents 
  • Direct and oversee the school’s largest fundraising event of the year- the Spring Gala to focus on event planning, outreach, and fundraising
  • Develop a new and enhanced corporate sponsorship program
  • Staff the GO LEAD leadership development program, a bi-annual program designed to nurture future school leaders
  • Work with the Director of Institutional Advancement and other members of the Development team on other projects as needed

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects  
  • Familiarity with Jewish day school and/or Jewish communal fundraising highly preferred
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent donor relations and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and writing skills  
  • Committed to the mission of Golda Och Academy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Raiser’s Edge (or similar donor database)
  • Flexibility in working occasional nights and weekend hours appropriate to meet responsibilities 
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
