Overview

The Greater Miami Hebrew Academy (Hebrew Academy), located in Miami Beach, Florida, was founded in 1947 by Rabbi Alexander Sender Gross z"l. Today it serves over 600 students ages six weeks to 12th grade through its Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School curriculum. 

Hebrew Academy is a Modern Orthodox Dati Tziyoni school that welcomes students across all levels of the Jewish religion. It guides its students through teaching the preeminence of Torah and fulfillment of Mitzvot according to Halacha, the centrality and religious significance of the Modern State of Israel, excellence in both General and Judaic studies, and the Divinely implanted potential within each and every person. 

Hebrew Academy (RASG) is seeking a Director of Development to oversee all aspects of the school’s fundraising operations and contribute to the growth of its annual campaign. A successful candidate will effectively analyze data to build operations infrastructure for Hebrew Academy’s fundraising efforts and help inform decision-making alongside the school’s development staff and lay-leader solicitors. Reporting to the Head of School, this individual will serve as a Steward of Hebrew Academy’s mission, directing the annual campaign and helping the school create and grow its endowment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, execute, and steward all fundraising activities, including annual giving, endowment, capital campaigns, events, and special projects
  • Cultivate a portfolio of major gift donors and establish best practices for tracking, engagement, and solicitation through extensive relationship development with key stakeholders
  • Identify and develop strategies for solicitation and donor engagement across Hebrew Academy’s campaign structure through data analysis and effective operations planning
  • Externally represent Hebrew Academy to current and prospective support constituencies and sponsors
  • Provide fundraising guidance to the Head of School, Board, PTA, Development Chair/Committee, and lay leaders to meet fundraising goals and objectives
  • Develop fundraising training for board members, committee members, and other advancement volunteers to achieve development objectives
  • Prepare reports and presentations for grants and development initiatives
  • Establish and implement long and short-range organizational development goals and objectives in consult with leadership
  • Plan and oversee the full fundraising calendar around Hebrew Academy activities, to include annual campaign, planned giving, endowment, capital projects; Collaborate with Events & Special Projects department

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, Jewish communal experience preferred 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Education, Public Policy, or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and leading development program
  • High-level strategic thinking and planning; ability to meet goals and objectives in a timely manner
  • Organized, ability to work independently and confidentially 
  • Strong, ethical presence with the ability to inspire, influence and build credibility with families, donors, leadership, and staff
  • Outstanding communication skills: ability to prepare and present well-developed material across development efforts
  • Strong analytical and database skills, ability to thrive in a collaborative environment; MS Office proficiency
  • Passion for Hebrew Academy’s mission and the culture of its surrounding community
  • Extensive understanding of the Jewish philanthropic community, specifically within greater Miami and South Florida
