The Director of Business Development (DoBD) is responsible for executing Evolve’s business development and sales strategy by generating leads, managing the sales pipeline, overseeing proposal development, and closing new business. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, this role owns the day-to-day systems, processes, and discipline required to meet the firm’s revenue goals.

The DoBD works closely with the leadership team to translate Evolve’s strategic priorities and senior-level relationships into an active pipeline and increased revenue. This role is accountable for sales execution, forecasting accuracy, and continuous improvement of the firm’s business development infrastructure.

Evolve operates in a remote environment; this role includes occasional evening and/or in-person meetings, overnight travel to client sites and conferences, and partner engagements.

Compensation Range

$140,000 - $155,000

Key Responsibilities

Business Development Execution & Sales Leadership

  • Partner with the Executive Vice President to develop and implement the firm’s business development strategy and revenue priorities 
  • Own and actively manage the full sales pipeline, from lead qualification through contract execution
  • Establish and maintain accurate sales forecasting and reporting
  • Track and report on key performance indicators related to pipeline health, conversion rates, and revenue
  • Set personal sales goals annually and maintain an active portfolio of prospective clients, a combination of self-sourced and inbound sales leads

Lead Generation & Partnerships

  • Develop, manage, and optimize revenue-generating partnerships, including referral partners, channel partners, and co-selling relationships
  • Track all partner-sourced leads, conversion rates, and revenue impact in the CRM
  • Activate opportunities originating from the leadership team through structured follow-up and pursuit
  • Assess partnership effectiveness and recommend which relationships to scale, refine, or sunset

Sales Pipeline, Proposals & CRM

  • Own the proposal development process, including strategy, timelines, coordination, and delivery
  • Manage and supervise the proposal manager
  • Partner with Directors and Senior Consultants on scoping, pricing, and staffing
  • Ensure consistent use, accuracy, and hygiene of HubSpot for all sales work
  • Partner with Operations to improve HubSpot workflows, reporting, and usability

Supporting Firmwide Sales Efforts

  • Train, coach, motivate, and support Directors and senior staff in business development and sales activities
  • Provide tools, messaging, presentations, and process guidance to strengthen firmwide sales confidence and consistency
  • Set an annual strategy for events, conferences, and other convenings that are aligned with priority sectors and revenue goals
  • Collaborate with Client Services leadership to ensure smooth handoffs from sales to delivery
  • Partner with VP, Finance, and Operations to track sales/revenue attribution

Sales Enablement & Meeting Preparation for CEO & EVP

  • Staff the CEO and EVP as needed on select high-value sales prospects, referral relationships, and strategic meetings
  • Prepare concise briefings for participation, including prospect background, relationship context, objectives, messaging, and next steps
  • Coordinate internal preparation for significant external meetings involving the CEO, ensuring clarity of roles and desired outcomes
  • Translate conversations into concrete follow-up actions, pipeline movement, and proposal activity

Qualifications & Skills

  • Offer a minimum of 15 years of experience working in a nonprofit organization and as a frontline fundraiser, soliciting major gifts from individuals or institutional partners
  • Build and sustain trusted, senior-level relationships with nonprofit executives, board members, donors, and partners that result in new business leads and opportunities
  • Translate deep nonprofit fundraising experience into compelling, consultative, relationship-centric sales conversations that lead to new business
  • Develop and present strategic advice, counsel, and service recommendations, organized by sector, to foster and execute business growth and expansion
  • Directly manage a proposal manager while leading and coordinating a broader, cross-functional group of colleagues who contribute to sales and business development efforts, using influence and accountability
  • Speak confidently and persuasively to large audiences and small, high-stakes groups, including boards, executive teams, and conference audiences
  • Own multiple complex pursuits simultaneously, maintaining clarity, momentum, and follow-through from the first conversation through close
  • Use CRM systems and sales technology with discipline and accuracy to manage pipeline, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools for research, prospecting, writing, analysis, and workflow efficiency, and adapt quickly as tools evolve
  • Exercise sound judgment, discretion, and executive presence when representing the firm externally
  • Work independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with senior leadership and consulting teams
