HeadCount is a nonpartisan organization that uses the power of music to register voters and promote participation in democracy nationwide. HeadCount reaches music fans where they already are – at concerts, festivals, community events and online – to inform, organize and empower.

Since 2004, HeadCount has registered over 1,000,000 voters by staging nonpartisan voter drives at over 1,000 live events per year and through digital campaigns that have won Clio and SHORTY awards. Artists such as Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Dave Matthews, Jay-Z, Billie Eilish, Dead & Co. and Megan thee Stallion have partnered with HeadCount, as have social impact brands and entertainment leaders.

HeadCount seeks a savvy business professional who is solutions-focused and passionate about the sustainable financial health of an organization to join the team as Deputy Director.  This new position will lead all finance, business management, office administration, and daily operational functions.   Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in budget development, financial planning and analysis, information technology and administrative operations  in a non-profit setting and will thrive in an evolving environment, have a high level of flexibility and a willingness to adapt and problem solve.

The Deputy Director will work closely with HeadCount’s Executive Director and will supervise the Administrative and Finance Manager.

Compensation Range

$85,000 - $95,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organization’s finances, legal compliance, data security, insurance, risk management, and general administration
  • Oversee risk management and legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements as needed
  • Oversee office management and related administrative functions ensuring smooth daily operations of physical space, equipment, procurement and staffing
  • Manage organizational budgeting and finance (working with a controller): budget reconciliation, audit, and financial analysis
  • Develop and document internal procedures and operations to bring consistency across the organization
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal legal requirements
  • Streamline internal operations including reporting structures, team goals, daily standup meetings, and organizing of staff calls
  • Assist with the development of new projects

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5 years in non-profit operations, finance or administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget development, financial planning and analysis, information technology and administrative operations
  • Experience with QuickBooks and budgeting
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with an ability to work well with peers and staff
  • Exhibits good-judgment and quick-thinking with a results-oriented approach to work and management
  • Appreciation and understanding of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Strategic problem-solving approach
  • Comfortable and able to thrive in a “start-up,” creative and changing  environment
  • Successful working in a group as well as independently
  • Ability to work in a nonpartisan environment without a political agenda
  • Passion and appreciation for the mission of HeadCount
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in non-profit management preferred
