Overview

For more than 70 years, the Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC) has worked to inspire a sense of community in San Mateo County, with over 37,000 Jewish residents. Situated between San Francisco and Palo Alto, the PJCC is among the top 10 JCCs in North America. Based in a 12-acre home in Foster City, the PJCC’s goal is to provide programs and services that reinforce the values and proud traditions the Jewish community embraces.

The PJCC seeks a visionary Chief Jewish Experience Officer (CJEO) to provide strategic leadership for enhancing Jewish life at the PJCC and the surrounding community. This individual will join a growing transformative leadership team and be responsible for increasing participation, meaning, and engagement for the entire Jewish community. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving on the executive team, this individual will guide, sustain, and amplify the PJCC as the primary Jewish communal home and service provider in San Mateo County.

A strong candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years of proven success in a nonprofit leadership position focused on Jewish learning and engagement or equivalent experience, with strong relationship building skills. This individual will offer the PJCC leadership team deep expertise in Jewish education throughout all life stages and a creative and collaborative spirit.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership in vision,  practice, and program delivery to showcase and leverage the impact of the  PJCC  

Create and direct all content  and activities related to enhancing Jewish life, learning, and engagement  throughout the San Mateo community, enabling transmission of Jewish values in  accordance with the PJCC’s guiding principles

Plan, develop, and implement new educational  programs, classes, and events, including holiday celebrations, for both  in-person and at-home engagement

Recruit, hire, train and develop staff to  effectively implement programming

Supervise multiple team members at varying  levels of the organization

Work closely with entire staff to develop  and strengthen Jewish engagement across all departments, with a primary focus  on increasing participation and a sense of belonging among Jewish young  families and adults

Confer with committee leaders to evaluate programs  and recommend methods to promote and increase engagement among all  demographics

Share the PJCC story with confidence,  communicating its unique value proposition to team members, participants,  funders, and key stakeholders

Work with the development team to identify  funding sources, cultivate donor relationships, and solicit gifts when  appropriate

Maintain and develop partnerships with  other local and national Jewish organizations and affiliates

Facilitate quarterly round table  discussions with local rabbis

Develop and be accountable for maintaining  annual program budgets within the scope of the CJEO’s oversight

 

Qualifications & Skills

Rabbinic ordination or advanced degree in Jewish  education preferred  

5+ years leadership experience in the organized Jewish  community

Passion for enriching Jewish life  and community at all life stages  

Substantial knowledge of and ability to articulate and  teach Jewish culture and traditions

Demonstrated capacity to collaborate as a team player

Adept in thinking strategically and exercising sound judgment

Effective and timely executive decision-making skills

Aptitude for identifying innovative and creative  approaches to challenges and growth opportunities while managing risks

Significant supervisory experience; able to provide responsive  and timely feedback and oversight to multiple direct and indirect reports

Ability to inform, motivate and inspire colleagues and  program participants

Clear and persuasive verbal and written communication  skills; sophisticated interpersonal skills

Detail-oriented with the ability to juggle and  prioritize multiple tasks

Experience developing qualitative and quantitative  measures to track impact

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Salesforce  CRM experience a plus

Willingness to work in-office five days a week and some  nights and weekends as needed
