Founded in 2009, the Chef Ann Foundation (CAF) works to ensure that all children have equal access to fresh, healthy, and delicious food, providing them the foundation to thrive and meet their true potential. To that end, CAF provides school food professionals with the resources, funding, and backing they need to provide cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet. To date, CAF has reached over 14,000 schools and over 3.4 million children in all 50 states.

The Chef Ann Foundation is seeking a Director, Individual Giving, who will create and implement the overall strategy for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of individual donors to meet annual revenue goals. 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director, Individual Giving will create, support, and reinforce relationships with all categories of individual donors.   Successful candidates will demonstrate achievement in nonprofit development, will work well independently and collaboratively, possess strong organizational and communication skills, and have demonstrated ability to maintain strong relationships. Ideally, candidates will have a passion and knowledge of food systems and a strong interest in childhood health and wellness.

Compensation Range

$80K-$100K

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead the execution of a comprehensive Individual Giving strategy raising upwards of 25% of the unrestricted annual general operating budget
  • Create and launch donor engagement and fundraising events
  • Schedule and hold personal meetings, both on-site and off-site, with donors and prospects 
  • Create and implement donor communications and acknowledgments related to the donor/prospect cultivation and stewardship 
  • Create major donor proposals that are strategic, persuasive, and inspiring, meeting the donor’s individual needs as well as those of the organization 
  • Assist with national donor prospecting, including research, rating, and screening sessions to support pipeline portfolio development 
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop and manage consistent communications to donors and prospects that align with individual giving strategies
  • Maintain donor records, acknowledgement letters, and all activity within the Customer Relationship Management database following organizational best practices 
  • Regularly measure, track, and report progress against budgeted revenue targets and other established metrics (such as new donors, retained donors, cultivation moves, etc.) 
  • Monitor revenue and expenses related to Individual Giving on a quarterly basis and prepare regular reports on all appeal activities

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years’ nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Familiarity with school food systems highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional, resourceful, and entrepreneurial 
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team
  • Strong presence with outstanding relationship building skills
  • Ability to inspire, influence, and build credibility with donors, lay leadership, and staff
  • Skilled in creating powerful & compelling written and oral communications
  • Proficiency with Google Workforce as well as Salesforce and Classy (or similar donor databases)
  • Open and willing to travel nationally as needed
