Overview

Founded in 1985, the Chicago Abortion Fund (CAF) supports people accessing abortion care across the Midwest and nation by providing financial, emotional, and logistical support. In addition to its direct service work, CAF builds power through organizing and research. 

The Chicago Abortion Fund seeks a passionate and skilled Development Manager who can support the development function to ensure adequate support from  individuals, foundations and corporations and that all fundraising efforts align with the mission, vision, and culture of Chicago Abortion Fund.  

Reporting to, and in partnership with the Director of Development, the Development Manager will be responsible for helping to execute the annual Development Plan and ensuring accurate and timely tracking of donations and donor relationships in the donor database. In addition, the Development Manager  will work cross departmentally with the Communications, Advocacy, and Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors
  • Conduct prospect research with a focus on generating new major donors; prepare briefing memos in advance of donor meetings
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of the donor database; responsible for data entry, gift processing, and weekly gift reporting
  • Coordinate donor relationship manager assignments for lay and professional staff and motivate all parties to complete tasks
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to develop the strategy, design and written content for all direct mail and e-mail appeals, as well as acknowledgements and impact reports
  • Execute the planning and implementation of select fundraising and stewardship activities such as Giving Tuesday, the annual appeal, donor and volunteer appreciation events and community events
  • Submit grant proposals, renewals and mid cycle evaluation reports in accordance with requirements of funders
  • Oversee grant status tracking, follow-up reporting, compliance monitoring and other stewardship activities
  • Create an annual Development Calendar aligned with the annual Development Plan
  • Generate donor lists, reports and analysis for staff and donors as needed

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of nonprofit development experience (or relevant experience)
  • Commitment to and understanding of reproductive justice, and demonstrated experience supporting low-income communities and communities of color
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort working with donors and volunteers
  • Confident self-starter who asks questions, anticipates issues, and tackles obstacles
  • High level of professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/Database; experience with Every Action a plus
  • Willingness to work remotely, attending frequent in person meetings and events; Work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
