Overview

Allies for Community Business (A4CB) provides the capital, coaching and connections entrepreneurs need to grow great businesses that create jobs and wealth in their communities. Founded in 1994, A4CB has supported more than 100,000 neighborhood entrepreneurs and funded 10,000+ loans in excess of $125 million, which have generated and sustained an estimated 30,000 jobs in primarily low-to-moderate income neighborhoods. As a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), A4CB is the largest provider of mission-focused microloans and business coaching in the Chicago area.  

A4CB seeks a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead all philanthropic activity for the organization. The CDO will supervise a development team of two. Successful candidates will bring access to relevant philanthropic networks; a sophisticated understanding of the communications/development relationship; experience in face-to-face solicitation, donor acquisition, and stewardship; and supervision and management experience. The CDO will report directly to the CEO of A4CB.

Compensation Range

$160,000 - $170,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, solicit, and steward new donors of major gifts 
  • Support fundraising for the Hatchery, the largest nonprofit food and beverage incubator in the country (co-owned by A4CB)
  • Create an annual development plan to meet A4CB’s collective fundraising goals
  • Lead an active and motivated development staff by establishing annual and quarterly individual goals and effectively managing the development team to achieve objectives
  •  Support the CEO in identifying board members who are experienced in development and are motivated to raise funds for A4CB and The Hatchery
  • Partner with the Director of Development to secure government and private foundation grants, to ensure contract compliance, to provide accurate and timely reporting on deliverables, to submit timely new and renewal grant applications, and to expand and diversify government, foundation, and corporate partnership giving
  • Execute individual donor strategies in partnership with the Manager of Individual Giving
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop compelling marketing collateral to share with donors and key stakeholders
  • Oversee the execution of the annual Toast to Community Business event, including securing dedicated event sponsorships

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of diversified development experience to include individual, corporate, foundation, and digital fundraising campaigns
  • Proven major gift pipeline development, solicitation, and stewardship experience
  • Ability to partner with board committees to drive development results
  • Marketing and communications experience (preferred)
  • Proven success managing teams of 2+ individuals, particularly in fundraising 
  • Familiarity with CRM and database systems to leverage donor cultivation and segmentation
  • Creative and efficient problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Effective, clear communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet important deadlines
  • Experience managing a variety of fundraising and stewardship events
  • Strong affinity with and belief in A4CB’s mission and purpose
