Founded in 1972, Americans for Ben-Gurion University (A4BGU) is a nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness, and runs programming within the United States in support of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Americans for Ben-Gurion University plays a vital role in sustaining David Ben-Gurion’s vision: creating a world-class institution of education and research in the Israeli desert, nurturing the Negev community, and sharing the University’s expertise locally and around the globe.

A4BGU seeks an experienced Director of Development (DoD) who will advance the mission of the organization and drive growth of the $50 million annual fundraising program to include strategy development, prospect identification, major gift development, and donor stewardship in South Florida. The DoD, who will report to and collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer, will be an integral member of the broader resource development team and will play a critical role in the overall financial growth of the institution. A successful candidate will have a minimum of ten years of relevant nonprofit fundraising experience and a passion for the mission of A4BGU. This motivated and dynamic professional will be tasked with creating comprehensive cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and engagement opportunities for prospective major donors within South Florida.

Compensation Range

$130k-$180k

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and execute development strategies to cultivate and engage donors at the $50,000+ level in South Florida
  • Manage a portfolio of prospective major donors while also developing a small portfolio of community-level donors with a goal of raising $1 million+
  • Partner with volunteers and colleagues to develop year-round prospecting and donor qualification processes via programs like Zin Fellows Leadership
  • Build and execute development strategies to specifically focus on engaging new constituents, multi-generational, and next-generation donors while building brand awareness for A4BGU
  • Contribute to market development efforts to build lay-driven chapter support networks in South Florida
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and Development Stewardship Team to design and implement systematic and integrated fundraising initiatives to utilize moves management strategies
  • Maintain and routinely update donor profiles within the CRM system; record all donor touchpoints and progress notes
  • Incorporate organization-wide tools (affinity groups, chapters, events, social media) to further engage donor families
  • Raise the visibility and public awareness of the institution through engagement and community outreach opportunities

Qualifications & Skills

  • 10+ years fundraising, community outreach and/or nonprofit management experience
  • Successful track record soliciting 6-figure gifts
  • Presence and aptitude to work closely with sophisticated volunteer leadership, high net worth individuals, and other key stakeholders
  • Passion for the A4BGU mission and the ability to promote and communicate mission impact 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking communication skills with the ability to craft compelling audience-specific messaging
  • Understanding of various philanthropic and planned giving instruments, preferably in academic institutions 
  • Enthusiastic to build a community and donor base in South Florida
  • Knowledge of and passion for Israel and/or scientific research
  • Project management expertise, with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and a propensity to take initiative
  • Proficient with business technology, social media, and donor database systems
