Founded in 1972, Americans for Ben-Gurion University (A4BGU) is a nonprofit organization that raises funds and awareness and runs programming within the United States in support of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). Americans for Ben-Gurion University plays a vital role in sustaining David Ben-Gurion’s vision: creating a world-class institution of education and research in the Israeli desert, nurturing the Negev community, and sharing the University’s expertise locally and around the globe.

A4BGU is seeking a dynamic Associate Director of Development who will advance the mission of the organization by identifying and stewarding donor relationships to deeper levels of engagement and increased levels of philanthropic giving. In addition, the Associate Director will help lead market-based engagement and development strategies in New York and the broader Tri-State area. A successful candidate will be enthusiastic about building engaged communities, attending events, and constantly networking to build a pipeline of prospective donors. This full-time position reports to the Senior Director of Development and will be an integral part of the broader resource development team.

Compensation Range

$100k - $130k

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development to build and execute development strategies using a moves management approach
  • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors at various giving levels
  • Manage robust lay leadership prospecting, through Zin Fellows Leadership Program and other avenues together with other members of the development team
  • Build and execute development strategies to specifically focus on engaging new constituents, multi-generational, and next-generation donors while building brand awareness for A4BGU
  • Work in cross-functional teams to use virtual and in-person events to further engage major donor families
  • Mobilize local leadership structures within the chapter model by identifying and motivating lay ambassadors who can promote and strengthen the mission of A4BGU
  • Liaise with community partner organizations (congregations, federations, JCC’s) in the New York/Tri-State area to further engagement
  • Incorporate organization-wide tools (affinity groups, chapters, events, social media) to further engage donor families
  • Design and implement systematic and integrated fundraising initiatives in coordination with the development team
  • Manage and update regular moves management and community engagement-related processes in the A4BGU CRM 
  • Maintain collaborative partnerships with members of the national staff, regional staff, BGU staff, and BGU faculty members

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of donor engagement, community outreach or fundraising experience in a nonprofit organization 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking communication skills with the ability to craft compelling audience-specific messaging
  • Team player who works well both individually and collaboratively in cross functional department settings
  • Working knowledge of philanthropic and planned giving tools, particularly in academic institutions preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise developing and executing high level fundraising strategies and incorporating them into day-to-day operations
  • Presence and aptitude to work closely with sophisticated volunteer leadership, high net worth individuals, and other key stakeholders
  • Project management expertise, with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and a propensity to take initiative
  • Proficiency working with social media platforms as well as relevant trends and tools; knowledge of donor management software (Salesforce)
