Position Overview:  The Managing Director of Talent Services reports to Evolve’s President & CEO and is a member of Evolve’s Leadership Team. The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing and driving growth for the Evolve Talent suite of services. Alongside the CEO and Executive Vice President, the Managing Director will expand the visibility, profitability and growth of Evolve Talent through the development of a clear vision for the service line and execution of a corresponding business development and marketing strategy. The Managing Director will oversee the work of the Talent team and ensure quality service delivery to Evolve Talent clients. The Managing Director will also lead their own search projects with nonprofit clients. 

The ideal candidate will have extensive nonprofit management experience, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, supervising, and developing professional teams, major gift fundraising, operations, board and leadership development, events, and/or strategic planning. Previous executive recruiting experience is preferred, as is a track record of successfully meeting and exceeding financial goals and building and managing a growing team in a senior management role. The Evolve team works in a remote environment and this role requires occasional evening and weekend meetings.

Compensation Range

$140,000 - $160,000 annual base salary + bonus eligibility and business development compensation

Key Responsibilities

Business Planning and Execution

  • Work in partnership with Evolve’s leadership team to develop a plan to expand Evolve Talent’s service offerings and client base.
  • Develop, in partnership with Evolve’s leadership team, annual revenue goals and milestones.
  • Implement the plan to meet and exceed financial benchmarks and infrastructure objectives. 
  • Oversee the work of Evolve Talent team members, setting goals and evaluating performance.
  • Enable Evolve Talent team members to provide comprehensive, quality service utilizing the highest standards of professional practice.
  • Work with firm leadership and team members to weave talent recruitment opportunities into current business lines, events and external affairs.

New Business Development

  • Source new Evolve Talent sales opportunities via one-on-one meetings, networking, inbound lead follow-up, outbound cold calls and emails.
  • Plan and prioritize sales activities, to include proactive prospecting, lead qualification, targeted communications and face-to-face meetings, to meet agreed upon goals.
  • Meet regularly with the Evolve team to build the prospect pipeline and identify new business prospects.
  • Utilize the firm’s search (Crelate) and business management (Hubspot) software to organize and track the business pipeline.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends as they relate to nonprofit search, management and fundraising.
  • Support and participate in communications efforts, including webinars and blogs, in partnership with the Communications Manager.
  • Represent the team at conferences and convenings to enhance the profile of the company and promote the firm’s Talent offerings.

Candidate Development

  • Serve as the lead ambassador for Evolve Talent’s work in the nonprofit community.
  • Position Evolve Talent as the “go-to” resource for nonprofit development and C-suite professional career advancement.
  • Support the Evolve Talent team in building a network and pipeline of prospective candidates across nonprofit sectors, areas of expertise (fundraising/major gifts, communications, finance, operations) and levels of experience.
  • Ensure the proper tracking of all candidates and referrals in Crelate. 
  • Execute and oversee the development of advanced research across an array of public and private sources, including Evolve’s database, LinkedIn Recruiter, Guidestar, social media sites and tools, publications, and other web-based informational sources.
  • Build on the Evolve Talent team’s process for managing candidate relationships, ensuring consistent communication and timely updates on active search projects to build trust and facilitate a streamlined search process.
  • In partnership with the Evolve Communications Manager, create a plan to communicate regularly with the candidate pipeline regarding open searches and professional development opportunities.

 

Client Engagement and Team Support

  • In partnership with the Evolve Talent team, develop sophisticated recruitment strategies and manage all client communications throughout a search.
  • Ensure timely client communications and regular weekly updates for all open search projects.
  • Collaborate with Evolve Talent team members to develop a robust prospective candidate pipeline.
  • Proactively network to identify talent by sourcing both candidates and key connectors.
  • Conduct thorough candidate interviews in a nuanced and professional manner with emphasis on assessing candidates’ work history (including transitions), core competencies, organizational culture matching, and career narrative to date.
  • Conduct candidate reference checks during final interview rounds.
  • Oversee the production of key search documents, including position summaries, client updates, candidate profiles, hire announcements, and social media posts.
  • Create and oversee the development of project timelines; ensure each search is proceeding as planned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Draw on knowledge of nonprofit and consulting industry standards, laws, and guidelines.
  • Draw on previous experience in a senior management position.
  • Identify and steward opportunities for business development and cross promotion of Evolve products and services. 
  • Correspond in a professional and timely manner with clients and Evolve team members.
  • Lead and mentor team members, fostering independence, growth and learning for consultants.
  • Offer strong verbal and written communications with excellent facilitation, presentation and editing skills.
  • Competently navigate complexities within people and organizations.
  • Problem-solve resourcefully and proactively, using strategic and analytical approaches to addressing problems. 
  • Travel to attend client meetings, as necessary, and with appropriate health precautions in mind. 
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset, with proven ability to self-direct, be proactive and take initiative.
  • Represent the Evolve team in a public manner (e.g. at conferences, in membership groups, in professional networks, in the general nonprofit community, etc.).
  • Utilize exceptional interpersonal and networking skills; offering demonstrated success interfacing with a wide variety of organizational constituents.
  • Access established relationships within the national nonprofit community.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate superb attention to detail with a strong customer service orientation and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite, CRM platforms, GSuite, Dropbox, social media tools and other software, as deemed necessary.
