Overview

The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit takes care of those in need and builds a vibrant Jewish future in Detroit, Israel and for Jews around the world. Launched in 2012, NEXTGen Detroit has emerged as a leader of young adult engagement and serves as a model for Federations across the country. Through bold leadership, inspired giving, and diverse experiences, NEXTGen Detroit engages young Jewish adults to build and sustain a vibrant Jewish community. 

NEXTGen Detroit is seeking an Associate Director to help oversee a team responsible for developing and executing unforgettable programs, events, and initiatives for a large and diverse group of community members across the city. Reporting to the Director of NEXTGen Detroit, this individual will be charged with creating meaningful opportunities for social, professional, and cultural engagement and growth. 

A successful candidate is a natural relationship builder, charismatic, highly-organized, and is enthusiastic about Jewish life and building community. This position is hybrid and allows flexibility to work from home on average two days per week.

$65K – $75K

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise two NEXTGen Detroit Associates, providing ongoing direction, feedback, and coaching to achieve exceptional results; help to grow and strengthen the skills of all team members
  • Create and lead events and programs of all sizes that offer connection and help to build community 
  • Develop ongoing donor relationships and actively fundraise for the Jewish Federation in both organized and individual outreach efforts
  • Collaborate with the Director, NEXTGen Detroit to envision and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans targeting existing and prospective donors
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with lay leaders on the strategic direction and implementation of programs and initiatives 
  • Develop unique programs and events with NEXTGen Detroit’s community partners
  • Identify and build relationships with key stakeholders, including the NEXTGen Detroit Board, donors, volunteers, and colleagues 
  • Travel within the Detroit metro area for NEXTGen Detroit stakeholder meetings as necessary

Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector or related field, supervision experience preferred
  • Team player with excellent collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Passionate about building NEXTGen Detroit while strengthening Jewish identity and connection to Detroit Jewish life, Federation, and Israel
  • Comfort and interest in creative use of social media tools to build community and strengthen the NEXTGen Detroit brand
  • Skilled in building authentic relationships and inspiring confidence within teams and donors
  • Self starter who can manage various tasks and details while serving a big picture goal
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite; CRM experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community, culture, customs, and practices
