The Birthright Israel Foundation helps raise the funds needed to ensure this trip would be available today, tomorrow, and always. Inspired by nearly 40,000 annual donors, the Birthright Israel Foundation has sent over 750,000 young adults on this transformational trip.

The Birthright Israel Foundation is seeking a Director of Stewardship to be responsible for designing, implementing, and directing an integrated and comprehensive stewardship program that promotes engagement and connection with donors at all levels. The Director is a forward-thinking, innovative, and energetic professional with proven success in donor stewardship or client services, capable of development and orchestrating the implementation of a multi-year strategic plan to advance institutional efforts. This role requires outstanding relationship building and communication skills (both written and oral) with the ability to think broadly, assess the foundation’s needs and be creative in planning to address those needs. A high level of comfort working with data and technology are a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a team effort to develop stewardship plans for donors at various recognition levels within the major, annual, and planned gift programs
  • Establish donor recognition societies and collaborate with regional development teams and national leadership to facilitate events & activities in support of the effectiveness of the societies
  • Collaborate on the development of the annual report to donors, and on acknowledgement and recognition opportunities and procedures for major and leadership gifts
  • Ensure that details of stewardship plans are compiled and communicated to all involved parties, and that the plan is documents and implemented
  • Closely work with the Institutional Giving and Grants Team, ensuring donors are kept well-informed about the use and impact of their gifts. Assist in prioritizing and tracking status of stewardship reports and ensure that reports and related activities are properly tracked in the database
  • Work with IT and Communications & Marketing teams to regularly review collateral materials and acknowledgement letters so that they are “fresh”. Review, edit, and proofread copy for stewardship reports and other materials as needed

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5+ years of successful nonprofit fundraising and communications experience
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse body of colleagues in a complex environment
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work well independently and with others across the organization
  • Can handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate professionally and effectively both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to write creatively and market our outcomes to our stakeholders
  • Creative, organized, strategic and collegial 
  • Excellent computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters to ensure trustworthy relationships. Must have the ability to exercise sounds judgment when interacting with others
  • Familiarity with Salesforce a plus
  • Working knowledge of Hebrew a plus
